Spring can be a tricky season here in Illinois. In the space of one week, we can go from very cold keep-your-winter-coat-on weather to sweltering heat. Throw in a dash of rain (or snow) and it makes for a pretty unpredictable season. But there’s also an incredible amount of loveliness around!! Spring is absolutely my favorite season of the year. Sure, it’s tumultuous–but I love the newness of it and the promise it holds. For two or three glorious weeks each spring, we’re surrounded by a world in bloom! The tulip trees begin the parade of blossoms, followed by cherry trees. And I can never get enough of it. The air has it’s own unique floral scent and you feel like you can finally dust the frost off your bones.
Last year, I scouted around town, desperately wanting to photograph some families wrapped up in petals! But wouldn’t you know it? The weather had another plan. Before I could get anything lined up, we had a couple of bad storms in a row and all of the delicate pink blossoms were knocked to the ground.
So this year, I was ready and waiting!! And these beautiful trees did NOT disappoint. It was amazing to be able to fulfill the photographic vision of these trees that’s been in my head for a whole year. And it was an absolute delight to run around and play with these two little friends π Watching them explore the blooms, climb the limbs of the tree, and point out every bus that went by made for a wonderful morning!!
Mom did a fantastic job choosing outfits, too. I love the way the soft pink of her daughter’s dress compliments the magnolia blooms perfectly. And her son’s pop of blue seemed to match the sky.
Today, even though it’s June 1st, it seems that Mother Nature is enjoying one last “springtime” surprise–the weather is unusually chilly. And I can’t help but want to look back at these photos and remember the warm sunshine, the perfumed air, and the laughter of these darling kiddos π
And while the splendor of the magnolias is gone for now, if you’d like to book a session like this next spring when they come around again, sign up for my mailing list!Β Or if you’re dreaming of your own session this summer, it’s as easy as getting in touch π
